Akron General’s Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) and Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) provide comprehensive, patient-centered critical care to diverse populations of patients, ranging from young adults to geriatric patients. As an RN serving these patients, you will ensure they feel comfortable and safe throughout treatment. This position offers you an opportunity to enhance your critical care, trauma and CRRT dialysis knowledge while making a difference in the lives of everyone you meet, every day.
A caregiver in this position works nights from 7:00PM – 7:30AM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Provide direct nursing care.
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for a given patient population.
- Complete ongoing assessments, recognize changes in patient condition and respond appropriately.
- Develop and update goals and involve patients and families in developing plans of care.
- Coordinate the interdisciplinary plan of care and serve as a patient advocate.
- Provide nursing care, administer treatments and medication, and document.
- Participate in ongoing interdisciplinary evaluation of patient/family outcomes, contribute to the improvement of care and participate in the quality improvement process.
- Delegate tasks/assignments, serve as a resource person, pursue ongoing education and specialty certifications, maintain applicable certification/licensure and obtain any required certifications specific to the unit.
- Review and document progress and discharge goals with patients and families.
- Participate in and document patient care, discharge planning and case management conferences.
- Communicate information regarding patient plan of care, current outcomes and acuity at shift report.
- Communicate changes in patient condition and patient care/unit issues, ensure JCAHO Core Measures related to nursing care are achieved, incorporate patient safety goals and complete all paper and electronic records.
Education:
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred.
Certifications:
- Current licensed as a registered nurse in the state of Ohio.
- If assigned to ICU or NSICU satisfactorily completes TCAR/TNCC certification through the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) within 24 months of appointment.
- If assigned to CVICU satisfactorily completes IABP course through Getinge within one year of employment.
- Proof of Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) must be presented upon hire.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through American Heart Association (AHA). Certification must be presented upon hire or within first year of employment.
Complexity of Work:
- Maintains competencies specific to patient population served.
- Satisfactorily completes AGMC RN and Critical Care Unit orientation programs.
- Satisfactorily completes Critical Care course as administered by Staff Development (if new grad or new to critical care field).
Work Experience:
- Minimum one year current ICU or one year of acute care RN experience in a hospital setting.
Physical Requirements:
- Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
- Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
- Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
- Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
- Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
- Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
