The Security Officer is responsible for protecting patients, visitors, employees, and hospital property by conducting regular patrols and enforcing facility policies.

Responsibilities

  • Performs proactive monitoring of and timely responses to potential/actual security threats.
  • Deters vandalism, theft, and property abuse through routine patrols of all hospital property to include inside areas as well as all parking lots and decks.
  • Protects patients, visitors, and employees by providing escorts and eliminating safety hazards.
  • Enforces Cleveland Clinic facility policies (e.g., parking regulations, visitation policies, drug enforcement, tobacco free/smoking policy).
  • Maintains knowledge/follows policies and procedures regarding alarms and emergency/disaster preparedness plans.
  • Facilitates planned drills and simulations.
  • Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department-specific competencies and requirement to include de-escalation training provided by department within the first 6 months of hire, taser training and certification within the first year and as required after.
  • Provides information and assistance to staff and visitors to promote their safety on the premises.
  • Emergency Department metal detector searches will be conducted by all Cleveland Clinic Security Officers, using a magnetometer and/or hand-held scanning devices.
  • All patients and visitors entering the Emergency Department will be searched, all bags, backpacks, briefcases, knapsacks, purses, or parcels will be placed on a table and searched. The Security Officer will wand all new admissions to the Emergency Department, inclusive of the belongings and/or the patient as appropriate.When completed  this activity must be called in to the Dispatch via radio to be logged
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

 

Certifications:

  • Completion of an OPOTC (Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission) approved Private Security Academy is preferred.
  • Must possess a valid Ohio driver's license (VDL) and maintain eligibility of insurability to operate the organizations' vehicles.

 

Complexity of Work:

  •  Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of one-year prior related experience in the field of criminal justice; private, public, or military security, and/or related law enforcement fields.
  • Completion of Ohio Peace Officer Training (police) Academy and certification may be substituted for the above experience.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical physical demands require full body motion, physical strength and stamina sufficient to chase, apprehend and subdue criminal suspects, and respond to crisis interventions and medical emergencies.
  • Requires extensive walking and standing for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must have good eye/hand coordination and able to pass annual eye (with appropriate corrections) and hearing tests.

 

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
