The Dosimetrist is an essential position on the Oncology Cancer Institute team. You will utilize the latest computer-aided technologies to develop radiation treatment plans necessary to provide patients with influential treatments. Consistency is important to ensure optimal outcomes and an excellent patient experience. A caregiver in this position works rotating shifts from 8:00AM – 4:30PM.Â
A caregiver who excels in this role will: Â
- Design plans for radiation treatment, obtain final plan approval from the attending radiation oncologist and submit the approved plan to a medical physicist for review.Â
- Calculate the values of necessary parameters, including monitor unit, gantry angle and MLC settings, to deliver the prescribed radiation dose and dose distributions.Â
- Bill for calculations, plans and custom MLC per patient according to department and CCF policy and procedures. Â
- Supervise complex treatment set ups and special case setups in the CT simulator.Â
- Prepare all technical documentation required for treatment set up and record completion and review patient treatment records for weekly checks.Â
- Participate in department and professional education and training, department meetings, peer review and chart rounds.Â
- Assist section leader in training and implementation of new modalities and procedures.Â
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: Â
- Bachelor's Degree in Science, Mathematics, Engineering or an equivalent field from an accredited college or universityÂ
- Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) certification by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board within three years of hireÂ
- Completion of a well-regarded training program.Â
- Knowledge of simulation processes and treatment planning paradigms (e.g., forward planning and IMRT planning, brachytherapy planning, in-vivo dosimetric measurements and verify and record systems)Â
- Knowledge of Pinnacle and MosaiqÂ

Physical Requirements:
- Manual dexterity and the ability to participate in assisting patients on and off treatment couches
- Standing, sitting and walking for extended periods of time
- Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds
