Research AHT caregivers monitor and care for the health and well-being of research animals at Cleveland Clinic and support foundational pre-clinical research that will one day improve the lives of patients around the world. Â
A caregiver in this position works days/evenings/nights/weekends from 6:00am – 2:30pm or 7:00am—4:00pm.Â
A caregiver who excels in this role will:Â Â

Perform daily health observations and monitor the condition of research animals. Â

Provide custodial care, fresh feed and fresh water to animals. Â
-
Receive animal shipments and complete required documentation. Â
-
Ensure that areas used for technical procedures are well maintained and supplied.Â

Transport supplies, equipment and animals to and from various locations. Â
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:Â Â

High school diploma or GED. Â
-
Willing to be trained to properly handle all species of animals housed within the department.Â
-
Must have a valid Ohio Driver's license and a good, safe driving record to drive a CC vehicle.Â
-
One year of experience or demonstrated equivalent experience in the custodial care of animals or AALAS certification.Â

Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and can work with minimal supervision.Â
-
Can make quick decisions, identify options and take appropriate action.Â
-
Understand and follow detailed scientific or medical instructions given by investigators and/or veterinarians.Â

Can work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.Â
-
Flexible and complete the job before leaving work. Animal care is a 7-day per week, 365-days per year job.Â
Â
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:Â Â

Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT), Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT), or Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) certifications from American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS).Â

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift and transport equipment and/or animals weighing up to 75 pounds using carts with casters.

Capable of tolerating a significant amount of standing, bending and walking.

May be required to work with biological, chemical and radiation hazards after proper training
Personal Protective Equipment:

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay Range
Minimum hourly: $15.75
Maximum hourly: $21.65
The pay range displayed on this job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires.
