Research Technician II – Genomic Medicine

The Genomic Medicine Institute is committed to performing translational and clinical human genetics and genomics investigation and fostering innovation toward realizing the benefits of personalized genomic-based healthcare.
This position will be working in the SomaScan Core as a primary technician.
What SomaScan does?
Measures thousands of proteins in a single sample of bodily fluid or tissue for research purposes. SomaScan is used by researchers to gain insights into protein biology and protein-protein interactions. The platform's comprehensive analysis of proteomic biomarkers can help researchers move quickly and efficiently from biomarker discovery to validation.
What will this be used for?
Drug discovery, pre-clinical and clinical drug development, and biomarker discovery.
A caregiver in this position works 8:00am – 5:00pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Perform laboratory techniques and procedures required for experimental studies.

Perform technical lab duties.

Schedule and perform various analyses.

Assist with establishing and scheduling various procedures and analyses.

Prepare reagents, purify chemicals, and identify, separate and quantify various substances.

Conduct testing and procedures utilizing laboratory equipment and instrumentation.

Accumulate data from analyses.
-
Prepare charts, graphs, statistical tables, publications, grant proposals and applications for research forms.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

High school diploma or GED.

2 years of experience in a research or related laboratory environment OR an associate’s degree in a laboratory science field and 1 year of work experience OR a bachelor’s degree.

A technician with some experience who can be trained on the SomaScan platform, with some background/understanding of protein biology

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods
- Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment
- Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information
- Ability to distinguish color
- Manual dexterity to handle specimens and repair equipment
- Ability to lift and transport equipment or specimens weighing up to 20 pounds
- May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, bio-hazards, radioactive materials, etc.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay Range
Minimum hourly: $18.88
Maximum hourly: $28.80
