Research Veterinary Technician I

Research Veterinary Technicians monitor and care for the health and wellbeing of research animals and support foundational pre-clinical research that will one day improve the lives of patients around the world.
A caregiver in this position works 7:30AM – 4:00PM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Evaluate animals upon arrival and during the quarantine period.

Administer medical treatments to animals.
-
Assist the Veterinarian, investigators and animal caregivers with performing technical procedures.

Monitor the conditions of post-operative animals and animals requiring veterinary care.

Develop and implement animal health treatment plans and communicate the plan to research personnel.

Maintain accurate records.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
-
Associate's degree from a Veterinary Technician program.

Licensed as a Registered Veterinary Technician (VT) in the State of Ohio.

Demonstrated competence as a licensed Veterinary Technician.

Physical Requirements:
-
Ability to lift and transport equipment, supplies and/or animals weighing up to 75 pounds using carts with casters.

Capable of tolerating a significant amount of standing, bending and walking.

May be required to work with biological, chemical and radiation hazards after proper training
