Caring for Caregivers is comprised of several programs that are available to employees and dependents when they need information, support, or guidance to address concerns such as marital problems, childcare or eldercare matters, financial difficulties, work issues, or substance use problems. As a Professional Health/EAP Counselor, you will represent the Licensed Professionals Health Program, Employee Assistant Program (EAP) and the Professional Staff Assistance Program to provide assessment and case management of mandatory participants and provide short-term counseling and support to voluntary participants.  

 

The ideal future caregiver is someone who: 

  • Has a master’s degree in behavioral science and is a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC).  

  • Has experience delivering mental health and addiction services.  

  • Has strong written and verbal communication skills.  

  • Is eager to learn and grow in this highly complex, important role.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides assessment, coordination, case management and monitoring of mandatory participants, including licensed healthcare professionals and physicians with suspected issues of impairment.
  • Provides consultation to hospital leadership on the identification and resolution of job performance problems relative to employee personal problems.
  • Provides short-term counseling and supportive services to voluntary participants.
  • Assists with program promotion and awareness by establishing relationships with key hospital personnel and conducting presentations.
  • Staffs all critical cases with senior Caring for Caregivers leadership, as well as the Licensed Professionals Health Committee and Physician Health Committee when indicated.
  • Completes all documentation in adherence with professional and departmental standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Master's degree in one of the Behavioral Sciences.

Certifications:

  • Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW), or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) required.
  • Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor (LICDC) in chemical dependency counseling preferred.
  • Certified Employee Assistance Professional (CEAP) preferred.

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience with direct clinical services, including broad exposure to chemical dependency and psychiatric diagnoses.
  • Prior experience in employee assistance program (EAP) and/or clinical experience with professional populations highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of or experience in healthcare professional impairment and rehabilitation strongly preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • A high degree of dexterity to produce materials on a PC.
  • Normal or corrected vision and hearing.
  • Extensive sitting and frequent walking.
  • Occasional lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
