As a Pre-Analytics Processing Technician, you will be in a critical role at Cleveland Clinic. In this role, you will provide accurate results for lab testing as you process specimens. Your primary duties will include:Â

• Complying with basic regulations when testing. Â
• Documenting and performing problem solving functions and issue resolution. Â

Responsibilities:
- Performs body fluid processing using aseptic technique.
- Conducts higher level accessioning in the LIS (Lab Information System).
- Performs extensive manual processing for esoteric testing at non Cleveland Clinic reference laboratories.
- All duties of the Laboratory Processing Technician II to include:
- Performs manual processing (centrifuge, aliquoting, and routine maintenance)
- Prepares specimens for analysis.Â
- Performs problem solving functions and is responsible for advanced problem solving/ issue resolution
- Assumes compliance with basic regulations (temperature monitoring)
- Performs QA activities (pending log audit)
- Other duties as assigned.Â
Education:
- Associate’s degree required preferably in Science. Â
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, physics or medical laboratory science preferred.Â
Certifications:
- None required
Complexity of Work:
- Requires decision making and problem solving skills.
- Requires strong organizational and time management skills.
- Must be able to work independently and with minimal supervision
Work Experience:
- Two years lab processing experience required.
- A Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, physics or medical laboratory science can offset two years of experience.
- A total of 4 years of lab technician or comparable processing experience may offset the Associate Degree requirement.
Physical Requirements:
- Manual dexterity to perform specimen handling techniques and to take measurements
- May require extended periods of standing, walking and/or sitting.
- Handles and transports bio hazardous materials.
- Visual acuity, including the ability to distinguish colors.
- Must have normal or corrected vision.
- Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds.

- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as defined in the exposure control plan.
