The Research Veterinary Assistant monitors and cares for the health and well-being of research animals and supports foundational pre-clinical research that will one day improve the lives of patients worldwide.Â
A caregiver in this position works Days, from 7:30am—4:00pm.  Â
A caregiver who excels in this role will:Â Â

Perform daily veterinary services room rounds by examining rodents and aquatic animals, looking for health or well-being concerns and communicating with a veterinarian and/or veterinary technician regarding findings. Â

Monitor and perform rodent colony management and ensure compliance with facility guidelines and SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).Â
-
Document and communicate actions taken to support animal welfare and research.Â

Submit special service charges for services provided.Â

Ensure that areas used for technical procedures are well maintained and adequately supplied.Â
Â
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:Â Â

High school diploma or equivalent.Â
-
Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.Â

Can make quick decisions, identify options, and take appropriate action.Â

Understand and follow detailed scientific or medical instructions given by investigators and/or veterinarians.Â
-
Flexible and complete the job before leaving work (animal care is a 7-days per week, 365-days per year job).Â
-
One year of experience with demonstrated competence working with animals within a research lab and/or working with animals.Â

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift and transport equipment, supplies and/or animals weighing up to 75 pounds using carts with casters.

Ability to understand and follow detailed scientific or medical instructions given by investigators and/or veterinarians
-
Capable of tolerating a significant amount of standing, bending and walking.
-
May be required to work with biological, chemical and radiation hazards after proper training.
Personal Protective Equipment:
-
Lab jacket, nitrile gloves or other PPE required to perform tasks.

Follows all other standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay Range
Minimum hourly: $15.75
Maximum hourly: $21.65
The pay range displayed on this job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires. A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate’s work history, experience, skill set, and education.
