- Under the direct supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor, the MLT is responsible for conducting routine and complex laboratory procedures and accurately documenting and reporting test results.Job Description

- Demonstrates the knowledge of applicable Clinical Laboratory Medicine in order to produce required measure of accuracy.
- Receives and process various biological specimens in accordance with established procedures.
- Performs routine and complex laboratory procedures (waived, moderately complex and highly complex as defines by CLIA) using standard and sophisticated instrumentation and equipment in accordance with established procedures.
- Aids in proper reagent and chemical solution preparation, labeling and storage.
- Evaluates validity of test results using quality control standards, instrumentation function checks, and/or department policies and procedures. Brings problems to attention of supervisor or senior medical technologist.
- Evaluates and records test results in timely and accurate manner.
- Initiates appropriate corrective action to alleviate any deficiencies of quality assurance standards or established specified limits.
- Consistently coordinates all work with co-workers to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency during the assigned shift. Strives to be an effective and productive member of the institution.
- Performs and documents preventive maintenance measures on department's equipment and instruments.
- Provides general training to medical technology students and others under training and orientation.
- Always shows awareness and follows proper safety procedures.
- Demonstrates a working knowledge and understanding of computer functions.
- Assumes personal responsibility for on-going continuing education and professional development.
- Provides instruction and explanation to patients and/or family member when performing point-of-care testing procedures as defined by the laboratory test menu.
- Completes all mandatory in-service programs required within state time frame.
- Other duties as assigned
Education:
- Associate's Degree in Medical Laboratory Technician program.
Certifications:
- National certification as Medical Laboratory Technician. Within one year of hire, secures and maintains current MLT certification. Must complete and document all continuing education required to maintain certification.
