Mercy Hospital’s 5M Neuro Med Surg Unit provides care to stroke and med/surg patients. This is a great unit for the new grad RN to develop critical thinking, prioritization and nursing skills (IVs, NGTs, cardiac drips, stroke care). The unit has a great team cultures and there are opportunities to learn the charge RN role, precept new RNs and participate on hospital wide committees.
A caregiver in this position works 7:00PM – 7:30AM. Â

A caregiver who excels in this role will:Â Â

Participate in a residency core curriculum based on individual learning needs. Â

Provide direct nursing care alongside a success coach. Â

Establish and/or revise priorities for patient care (acuity of need, patient preference and resource availability). Â

Respond to data indicating risk to patients’ health and initiate action to correct, reduce or prevent risk. Â
-
Seek supervision, consultation and assistance when unable to perform safely and independently. Â
-
Document in patients’ medical records. Â
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:Â Â
-
Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing. Â

Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN). Â
-
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).Â
-
New graduate RN OR less than one year of RN work experience.Â
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:Â

Bachelor of science in nursing (BSN).Â
