Responsibilities:
- Performs the required standard operating procedures of the Core Research Facility with minimal supervision.  This includes the execution of research activities associated with established protocols and procedures; modifying them as needed. Operates or guides Core user in utilizing the facility's specialized equipment and services in support of user needs. Ensures the smooth flow and quality of daily work within the lab and ensures compliance in regard to Insitute, sponsor, and federal rules and regulations.
- Plans, conducts, and evaluates experiments and assays or other activities of varying and/or up to high scientific complexities.
- Calculates, records, compiles, and reports data. Analyzes and interprets data.
- Engages in problem-solving, relative to daily lab activities.
- Performs quality assurance on all assigned activities per procedures or SOPs.
- May enter services for billing purposes in the Core Facility's automated service/ billing system.  Compiles information for billing with accuracy. May assist in invoicing clients for services rendered.  Â
- Maintains established laboratory inventories, ordering materials as necessary.
- Prepares and operates equipment for experiments, assays, measurements, etc.Â
- Maintains instrumentation and equipment used in services provided by the Core Facility. Understands and follows all equipment manuals. Maintains and performs basic equipment repairs, in compliance with manufacturer and Institute guidelines.                                                                                                             Â
- Troubleshoots instrumentation and equipment problems. Cleans and performs general maintenance on equipment
- Executes and facilitates delivery of specialized services.
- Abides by all Institute, sponsor and federal rules and regulations.
- May assist in the training of technicians and trainees including students.           Â
- May train Researchers in instrument and equipment operation.
- Interacts with both Core personnel and users.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in relevant scientific field.
- Masters in relevant scientific field preferred.
Languages:
- N/A
Certifications:
- Certification in appropriate field may be required per department or core protocol within one year of hire.
Complexity of Work:
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Work Experience:
- Two years' experience required. Master's Degree in an appropriate scientific field may substitute for 2 years' experience. Six years’ experience with an Associate degree or eight years' directly related experience may substitute for bachelor's degree requirement.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods
- Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment
- Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay Range
Minimum hourly: $22.85
Maximum hourly: $34.85
