Ultrasound Technologists use imaging devices that emit sound waves to create an image that will help physicians assess and diagnose various conditions. There are different kinds of imaging devices, this includes ultrasounds, sonograms, and echocardiograms. Generally, sonographic imaging devices use a handheld probe, which is moved over the area being surveyed to create a two-dimensional or three-dimensional image. These devices can be used for therapy, diagnosis, and even to guide interventional procedures like biopsies or draining fluid collections. Â

A caregiver in this position works varying shifts, 7:00am – 5:00am. Â
Â
A caregiver who excels in this role will:Â Â

Perform routine imaging, emergent and invasive procedures to detect pathology. Â

Safely operate equipment and maintain standards while performing procedures.Â

Provide copies of imaging studies. Â
-
Complete and ensure that all electronic data is sent to its appropriate destination.Â

Inspect equipment to ensure proper orientation and contact service if necessary. Â

Document in charts upon completion of procedures. Â

Maintain adequate supplies in the work area. Â
Â
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:Â Â

Graduate of an accredited sonography program. Â
-
Registered through the American Registry of Radiology Technologists (ARRT) or the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or board eligible. If not already obtained, registration through the ARDMS is required within 18 months of hire. Â

Basic life support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA). Â
-
Knowledge of federal and state regulations. Â

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:Â Â

2 years of experience as a sonographer in an acute care imaging setting. Â

This position requires a mixture of moderate to heavy work as defined in the Employee Health Services Policy.

Special Demands: Needs minimal sustained direction in assessing needs, carrying out departmental and professional responsibilities; self-starting and self-motivating; working hours may exceed eight (8) hours per day and is based on what is needed to accomplish work at hand.

Confidentiality: Has limited access to the medical record for the purpose of verifying orders in the charts or prescription and to sign off after exam completion.

In addition, in this position the employee will be limit the PHI disclosed or requested to the amount reasonable necessary to achieve the purpose of the request.

The disclosures or requests that occur on a routine or recurring basis include every patient's orders need to be verified prior to the exam.

The employee makes these disclosures for the purpose of making sure that the correct exam is performed due to the doctors orders as well as signing off that the exam was completed of the request.
