Nurse Manager – Acute Cardiovascular/Cardiac Telemetry

Akron General’s 4200 Unit is a Complex Cardiovascular Unit that cares for a diverse patient population with high acuity. Patients that are cared for include: post open-heart surgery patients at day 3 from the CVICU, vascular surgery patients (amputations, fem/pop surgeries), lung surgeries (VATS procedure) that require patients to have a chest tube inserted for several days, irregular heart rhythms such as atrial fibrillation that requires titrated IV medication, post heart catheterization (PCI) patients that require frequent observation following the procedure, pacemaker implantations, heart attacks, congestive heart failure, and pulmonary embolism/DVT with IV anticoagulation. Due to the opioid epidemic related to heroin, this unit has an influx of patients who have endocarditis/infections of the spinal column that require frequent observation and multiple IV antibiotics and medications each shift.
A caregiver in this position works varying shifts from 7:00am – 7:00pm and 7:00pm – 7:00am.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Manage the practice of professional nursing and delivery of nurse care on an assigned unit.

Establish clinical direction for nursing care delivery, provide clinical supervision and maintain quality outcomes.

Collaborate with liaison departments in maintaining patient care standards.

Identify and resolve issues affecting the delivery of patient care services in a unit.
-
Develop quality initiatives and implement policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective delivery of health services.

Develop and maintain unit related patient care standards through continuous quality improvement.
-
Maintain Joint Commission and other regulatory standards.
-
Manage the operation of unit.

Analyze personnel structure, determine staffing needs and mix.

Provide direction and supervision, evaluate performance, conduct selection and termination processes and develop strategic plans.

Actively promote caregiver and self-development.

Participate in clinical nursing research and support foundation research activities.
-
Direct unit participation in the evaluation of new products.
-
Approve purchases and establish or revise inventory quotes.

Assist in the development and monitoring of budget.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
-
Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN).
-
Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
-
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
-
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) upon hire or within one year of employment.

Three years of recent clinical nursing experience including at least one year of healthcare management experience.
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Master’s degree in nursing (MSN).

Physical Requirements:
- Requires full range of motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye and hand coordination.
- Requires frequent data entry, sitting, standing and walking.
- Requires corrective vision and hearing to normal range.
- Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
- Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
