The Nurse Manager manages practice of professional nursing and delivery of nurse care on an assigned unit. This leader establishes clinical direction for nursing care delivery, provides clinical supervision and maintains quality outcomes. Additionally, this leader supervises all aspects of personnel management and development, maintains adherence to regulatory standards, develops and monitors the budget, and coordinates unit operations with other departments. 

   

Mercy Hospital’s Emergency Chest Pain Center (ECPC) provides a fully functional cardiac catheterization lab just steps away from the Emergency Department. This team can stop heart attacks in record time and works closely with paramedics to prepare for patient arrival. 

 

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is looking to advance their nursing career into a leadership role. Nurse managers are provided coaching by the nursing director. 

  

A caregiver in this position works Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

 

A caregiver who excels in this role, will: 

  • Manage practice of professional nursing and delivery of nurse care on assigned unit. 

  • Establish clinical direction for nursing care delivery, provide clinical supervision and maintain quality outcomes. 

  • Collaborate with liaison departments in maintaining patient care standards, identify and resolve issues affecting the delivery of patient care services. 

  • Develop quality initiatives and implement policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective delivery of health services. 

  • Develop and maintain unit-related patient care standards through continuous quality improvement. 

  • Provide direction and supervision, evaluate performance, conduct selection and termination process, and develop strategic plans. 

  • Participate in clinical nursing research, support foundation research activities and actively promote staff and self development. 

  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal caregiver include: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing 

  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) 

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) 

  • Three years of recent nursing clinical experience, including at least one year of healthcare management experience 

  

Preferred qualifications for the ideal caregiver include: 

  • Master’s degree in Nursing 

  • Demonstrated leadership, management, communication, counseling, problem-solving, decision-making, conflict resolution and group process skills 

  • High degree of clinical expertise in specialty area

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye and hand coordination.
  • Requires frequent data entry, sitting, standing and walking.
  • Requires corrective vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
  • Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
