Seconds count in an emergency and people count on Indian River Hospital’s Emergency Department to provide high quality, compassionate care. Indian River Hospital’s Emergency Department has multi-disciplinary care teams, and the leading-edge technology needed to diagnose and treat patients effectively, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It is also one of the busiest Emergency Rooms in the Cleveland Clinic enterprise. By joining the Emergency Department as a Monitor Technician, you will perform ongoing surveillance of patients' cardiac monitors and provide appropriate nursing staff with timely notification of changes in cardiac rhythm and/or hemodynamics that could impact patient condition. Here, you will work on a helpful team of compassionate caregivers while enhancing your skills through various learning opportunities. This position is also a great gateway to other positions within Cleveland Clinic.
A caregiver in this position works nights from 6:45PM – 7:15AM, including 4 weekend shifts per 6-week period.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Perform ongoing surveillance of patients’ cardiac monitors, cardiac rhythm and vital signs.

Notify appropriate nursing staff of any changes according to clinician, provider orders and/or in accordance with departmental protocols.

Interpret patient cardiac/hemodynamic rhythm and document in the electronic medical record.

Answer the telephone and communicate clearly when receiving and delivering information.

Orient and mentor new caregivers, serving as a training and troubleshooting resource for the CMU and nursing units.

Provide reports for the oncoming shift.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
-
High School Diploma or GED
-
Knowledge and understanding of basic patient care activities through formal training program in Allied Health or a healthcare field (e.g., Nursing, Medical Assisting, EMT or a similar field) OR one year of patient care experience in a hospital, nursing home or healthcare setting

Working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, computer and typing skills
-
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Completion of EKG/Cardiac Monitoring Course

Experience as a Monitor Technician

Demonstrated skill in recognizing abnormal cardiac rhythms

Physical Requirements:

Ability to work in a fast paced environment under moderate pressure, multi-task with accuracy to keep track of a large number of patients and requires long periods of sitting and watching a computer monitors.

Visual acuity for observing cardiac monitor data.
