As Volunteer Program Manager, you will be responsible for leading and coordinating the volunteer services program at Cleveland Clinic Weston Hospital, overseeing a team of approximately 250–300 volunteers across multiple departments. This role involves recruiting, training, placing, supporting, and recognizing volunteers, while ensuring their contributions follow hospital policies, meet regulatory requirements, and positively impact the patient experience.

By leading a large and diverse team of volunteers, you play a key role in creating a welcoming and supportive environment for patients, families, and staff. You'll have the chance to build strong relationships, develop engaging volunteer programs, and see the direct results of your efforts in the improved experiences of those who visit and work at the hospital. A caregiver in this position works day/evening/night/weekend shifts from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Direct and manage daily operations of the hospital’s volunteer program
  • Recruit, interview, onboard, and train new volunteers
  • Monitor volunteer performance; provide coaching and discipline as needed
  • Maintain communication and build strong relationships with volunteers, staff, and hospital leadership
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute hospital events involving volunteers
  • Track volunteer hours and outcomes for reporting and compliance
  • Recognize volunteers through various programs and awards
  • Collaborate with community groups and internal stakeholders
  • Evaluate effectiveness of volunteer initiatives and propose improvements
  • Updates policies and procedures for the volunteer department as needed, identifies organizational and departmental needs, and initiates solutions for improvement.
  • Implements a program of patient satisfaction surveys to monitor activities of volunteers, including direct volunteer-patient contact.
  • Provides ongoing recognition of volunteers and volunteer groups via thank you card, birthday card program, illness follow up, and writes nomination of volunteers for various department awards as well as community, local, and state awards and recognition.
  • Works collaboratively with community to engage in special programs and services
  • Maintains a record keeping system, computer data, sign-in sheets, and data reporting forms to meet reporting requirements of funding sources and prepares monthly statistics, quarterly and annual reports of volunteer hours of service.
  • Represents the facility at functions as assigned, maintains membership in appropriate professional organization, and serves on appropriate committees of these organizations.
  • Participates in information exchange and volunteer recruitment consultations with regional volunteer programs within Cleveland Clinic and provides information for various newsletters when requested.
  • Evaluates outcomes of special events via meetings with staff and volunteers serving in chairperson roles.
  • Maintains competencies specific to the population served.

 Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, or Healthcare related field and three years of experience as a manager in Healthcare or related discipline OR additional years experience may offset degree requirement
  • Proven people management skills, ability to handle multiple tasks, strong communication, writing, and public relation skills
  • Interest in and understanding of home health care and hospice services
  • Patience and the ability to teach people of varying education levels

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Volunteer program leadership (in healthcare or other industries)
  • Experience managing large groups, especially in high-visibility roles
  • Event planning and community outreach experience
  • Healthcare background

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical physical demands include a high degree of dexterity to produce materials on a PC; normal or corrected vision, extensive sitting and frequent walking, occasional lifting or carrying from 5 to 15 pounds.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $25.13

Maximum hourly: $38.33
