As a Cook/Baker, you will review menus, the daily census, tally sheets and prepare a variety of food for patients, caregivers and visitors to ensure they have the energy they need to get through their days, no matter how hectic or demanding. This position provides valuable opportunities to gain experience in kitchen operations while offering a pathway to potential advancement into management through Morrison.
A caregiver in this role works days from 10:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. or 11:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m., with every other weekend and holiday requirements.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Review menu and special orders to determine types and quantities of food items to be prepared.

Follow standardized recipes in preparation of all foods.

Plan cooking schedule with supervisor and/or dietitian to ensure food will be ready at specified times.

Confer with dietitians regarding modified diet preparation and use of leftovers.

Adhere to HACCP guidelines in the storage, handling, and preparation of food and in the sanitation and maintenance of work area.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

High School Diploma/GED

Two years of cooking experience with a variety of menu items

Knowledge of proper food handling, preparation and storage
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Successful completion of a formal training program for cooks or three years of related experience

Successful completion of a Culinary Certification Program

Physical Requirements:

Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.

Must lift and carry items up to 50 pounds.

Ability to work with food preparation equipment.

Requires a high degree of dexterity to prepare food items as well as plate assembly and garnish.

Ability to work in an environment with possible extreme temperature change.

Visual acuity with the ability to distinguish colors used in coded dating system required.

Exposure to chemicals for the purpose of cleaning and sanitizing.
