Indian River Hospital’s Internal Medicine team diagnoses, treats and cares for adults across the spectrum of health. Whether a patient has sudden illness, a chronic condition or several medical problems at once, this unit is here to help. As Clinical Assistant (LPN), you will assist your fellow LPNS, RNs and other healthcare staff in providing exceptional patient support and attention. This position is a great introduction to the Cleveland Clinic enterprise before exploring further our numerous educational or professional development opportunities.
A caregiver in this position works days from 8:00AM – 4:30PM, with flexibility to work from 9:00AM – 5:30PM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Function as a member of the Patient Care Team by utilizing knowledge of nursing theory and disease processes to provide professional nursing care to patients as appropriate.
- Provide accurate medication administration and nursing documentation such as medical records, authorization forms and laboratory requisitions.
- Implement pain management assessments and documentation.
- Recognize changes in patients' status and reports pertinent information to Charge Nurse or Physicians.
- Recognize and follow through with nursing intervention.
- Maintain complete and up-to-date documentation and files at all times.
- Perform patient teaching as needed under the supervision of RN/Physician.
- Adhere to the National Patient Safety Goals as outlined by JCAHO.
- Follow Code Blue protocol as per clinic policy.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Graduate of an accredited LPN Program
- Current Florida licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
- Knowledge of infection control practices
- Computer literacy
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- One year of clinical experience.

Physical Requirements:
- Frequent walking, sitting, and standing
- Frequent talking and listening when giving instruction and explanations
- Frequent use of the phone; fax machines, and occasional use of the computer.
- Constant lifting and moving patients
- Carrying equipment, supplies and material up to 50 pounds without help and over 50 pounds with the help of mechanical devices or other personnel
- Stooping, pushing and pulling when moving patients into position for treatment
- reaching, handling, feeling and manipulating equipment into position
- Exposure to blood and blood borne pathogens is significant

- Follow Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures
