The Critical Care Transport (CCT) Team is available 24/7 to provide immediate medical treatment to patients presenting with various critical injuries, illnesses and concerns. In this role, fast thinking and processing are essential, as every second counts in an emergency. Your tireless efforts help improve outcomes and make a lasting difference in the lives of patients, their families and your fellow caregivers. 

A caregiver in this position works varying shifts. 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Provide immediate medical treatment to critically ill or injured patients throughout the interfacility or scene transport process.  
  • Navigate an ambulance to respond to emergency calls and maintain equipment.  
  • Assess the nature and extent of the illness or injury, administer appropriate emergency medical care, communicate with medical personnel at the hospital, report/record observations and follow directives until report and hand-off at hospital.  
  • Function as an advocate for the patient and their family by supplying and interpreting information, supporting decisions and facilitating communication. 
  • Conduct point-of-care laboratory testing as part of patient care and participate in requisite point-of-care testing maintenance procedures as applicable. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • High School Diploma/GED 
  • Completion of an accredited EMS-Paramedic Training Program 
  • Current state or national licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P or PMD)  
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certifications through the American Heart Association (AHA) 
  • Completion of a Newborn Resuscitation Program (NRP) within six months of hire 
  • Operation of Emergency Vehicles (EVOC) Certification with eight hours each of driving and lecture time 
  • Current Valid Driver’s License (VDL) 
  • Passport within one year of hire 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Associate’s Degree in EMS 
  • Three years of experience as an EMT or Paramedic  
  • Experience in an Emergency Room, Fire Rescue or other critical care transport 
  • Two years of experience driving Emergency Vehicles

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to perform in limited quarters, ground and air transport modes and in all types of terrain and weather conditions. Frequent bending, twisting, climbing steps or ladders, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
  • Medium Work – exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for light work.

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
