The Respiratory Support Technician position allows for ample opportunities to experience a wide range of patient populations and different patient care activities performed by Respiratory Therapists.
A caregiver in this position can be expected to work rotating days, evenings and potentially night shifts with weekend and holiday requirements.
This position is intended for students who are actively enrolled in a CoARC accredited Respiratory Care program.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Perform targeted rounding in active patient areas to recover assets for processing and re-distribution.

Clean, deliver, evaluate and inspect specified medical devices, such as infusion pumps, syringe pumps, feeding pumps, PCA pumps, DVT pumps, specialty beds, specialty carts and procedural trays.

Document work activity in an electronic database.

Stock and take inventory of Respiratory Therapy equipment, supplies and inhaled medications.

Operate laboratory equipment.

Set up and download overnight pulse oximetry trend studies.

Assist Respiratory Therapists with orders.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

High school diploma or GED.
-
Strong background in math and science.
-
Required within new hire period: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Prior healthcare experience.
-
Within five years of employment: completion of an Accredited Respiratory Therapy Program.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to walk long distances while pushing a cart of equipment/supplies.

Must be able to lift equipment in excess of 35 lbs.

Push/pull loaded carts of equipment in excess of 100 lbs.
