The Taussig Cancer Center is one of the top cancer treatment centers in the US, focusing on chemotherapy care for inpatient and infusion center patients at Cleveland Clinic’s Main Campus. Experience is offered in sterile compounding, chemotherapy compounding, robotic compounding training, high-cost medication inventory management and specialized pharmacy operations training.
A caregiver in this role works variable shift times of 7:00am to 3:30pm, 8:30am to 5:00pm and 10:30am to 7:00p and are scheduled every fourth weekend, Saturday and Sunday.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding.
- Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner.
- Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.
- Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training.
- Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.
- Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- High school diploma or GED
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National HealthCareer Association (NHA)
- Active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Trainee
- Please note: Caregivers with active Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Registered Pharmacy Technician registrations are required to update their registration to a Certified Pharmacy Technician registration with the OBOP within 6 months.
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program
- 6 months of hospital experience
