Surgical Technicians, sometimes called “scrub techs”, assist in surgical procedures under the supervision of surgeons and registered nurses and ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and maintaining a sterile field. As a Surgical Technician, you will perform a variety of functions, such as checking supplies and equipment, setting up sterile tables, performing appropriate counts, draping the sterile field, passing instruments to the surgeon and assistant during the procedure, preparing sterile dressing and clean instruments for terminal sterilization. A caregiver in this role works days from 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. with on-call requirements.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Perform ED/surgical procedures (i.e., vascular, general medicine, ortho, cardiac, GI, GU, neuro, pediatric and general procedures).

Produce images of optimal quality for interpretation with accuracy and without delay.
-
Provide verbal and written instructions to patients and families on procedures as needed.
-
Assist in scheduling patients and determining priority of patients.
-
Ensure and maintain patients' safety and comfort during and after the exam.
-
Assist Radiologists, physicians and surgeons with procedures.
-
Stay up to date in acquiring, archiving, transmitting and printing images via PACS.
-
Immediately report any malfunctions to the help desk and PACS Administrator.
-
Maintain documentation requirements to ensure that all technical data is entered timely and accurately.
-
Notify management and take proper action to address equipment malfunctions.
-
Provide instruction/mentoring to new hires and Radiology students.
-
May be required to rotate through all diagnostic imaging modalities and locations.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Graduate of an accredited School of Radiologic Technology
-
Registered Technologist credentialed by The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists [R.T.(R) (ARRT)] in good standing
-
Current state licensure (RL)
-
Knowledge in billing via RIS
-
Knowledge of anatomy and related pathological processes
-
Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA)
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

One year of experience as a General Radiologic Technologist
