As a Surgical Services Support Technician II on this dynamic team, you will help create a safe and sterile environment for surgical operations and other procedures. Caregivers in this role will be exposed to the latest technologies, offering a unique opportunity to gain invaluable medical knowledge through hands-on experience. This position is an excellent entry point into Nursing Support as you explore the endless possibilities at Cleveland Clinic.

A caregiver in this position works evenings from 10:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. + on-call with some weekends and holidays required.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Oversee and safely transport patients to designated areas per nursing request.  
  • Use a variety of technical skills to assist the nursing staff during surgical cases.  
  • Maintain and control Support Services equipment and supplies.  
  • Oversee and maintain the O.R. environment in an aesthetically safe and sanitary condition. 
  • Oversee, escort and direct customers to the appropriate source of assistance. 
  • Provide a safe environment for patients and their families through producing quality outcomes. 
  • Assist the Supervisor with daily staffing. 
  • Monitor and document quality outcomes. 
  • Oversee and complete patient tracking through electronic software tools. 
  • Coordinate and maintain Uniform Room activities such as locker assignments and scrubs for all O.R. personnel. 
  • Properly handle and dispose of hazardous waste. 
  • Comply with special cleaning requests for radioactive waste and infection control surgical cases. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High school diploma or GED  
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) upon hire or willing to obtain within the new hire period  
  • One year of experience as a Surgical Services Support Technician I or two years of experience as a Lead following through with projects and managing staff 
  • One year of customer service experience and working in a team environment

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires a full range of body motion including ability to lift and/or bear the weight of 100 pounds with assistance, or more while pulling, lifting, pushing and transferring patients to and from various apparatus; regularly pushes moderate to heavy weight of 100 pounds or more.
  • Exposure to body fluids.
  • Must be available for flexible scheduling according to the needs of the surgical area.
  • Floating may be expected per assignment policies within the surgical support department.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
