Akron General offers a wide range of surgical services. Whether you require a minimally invasive procedure or a major surgery, our surgical teams are dedicated to providing our patients with excellent care. As a Nurse Manager in this role, you will manage the daily clinical and operational functions for the high-level specialization and complexity of each surgical service within the Operating Room. The Nurse Manager ensures equipment and instrumentation is available for surgeons, manages staff and surgeons, collaborates with service personnel and vendors on purchasing and repair, assists in coordinating the needs of the daily schedule for appropriate coverage for each case and participates in capital purchase analysis and negotiation.  
 

A caregiver in this position primarily works days from 9:00AM—5:00PM, but start/end times may vary. 

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Manage the practice of professional nursing and delivery of nurse care on an assigned unit. 

  • Establish clinical direction for nursing care delivery, provide clinical supervision and maintain quality outcomes. 

  • Collaborate with liaison departments in maintaining patient care standards. 

  • Identify and resolve issues affecting the delivery of patient care services in a unit. 

  • Develop quality initiatives and implement policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective delivery of health services. 

  • Develop and maintain unit related patient care standards through continuous quality improvement. 

  • Maintain Joint Commission and other regulatory standards. 

  • Manage the operation of unit. 

  • Analyze personnel structure, determine staffing needs and mix. 

  • Provide direction and supervision, evaluate performance, conduct selection and termination processes and develop strategic plans. 

  • Actively promote caregiver and self-development. 

  • Participate in clinical nursing research and support foundation research activities. 

  • Direct unit participation in the evaluation of new products. 

  • Approve purchases and establish or revise inventory quotes. 

  • Assist in the development and monitoring of budget. 

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN)  

  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)  

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) 

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) upon hire or within one year of employment  

  • Three years of recent clinical nursing experience including at least one year of healthcare management experience 

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN)

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye and hand coordination.

  • Requires frequent data entry, sitting, standing and walking.

  • Requires corrective vision and hearing to normal range.

  • Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.

  • Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
