The Cancer Center understands the concerns and needs of patients and families navigating the complexities of a cancer diagnosis. This experienced team of Oncology and Hematology specialists work together to bring advanced services to the next level by treating the patient, not the disease. As an RN, you will assist in delivering this exceptional care, from initial introduction to final send-off. In this role, you will interact directly with patients, offering the opportunity to offer emotional support in some of their most vulnerable times. Additionally, the Cleveland Clinic system provides nurses with many professional development resources, including furthering education and online/in-person courses to enhance your skills.
A caregiver in this position works days from 8:00AM – 4:30PM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Provide direct nursing care.
- Complete ongoing assessments, recognize changes in patient condition and respond appropriately.
- Develop and update goals, involve patients and families in developing plans of care and serve as a patient advocate.
- Provide nursing care, administer treatments/medication and document.
- Participate in ongoing interdisciplinary evaluation of patient/family outcomes, contribute to the improvement of care and participate in the quality improvement process.
- Delegate tasks/assignments, serve as a resource person, pursue ongoing education and specialty certifications, maintain applicable certification/licensure and obtain any required certifications specific to the unit.
- Administer and document chemotherapy, investigational chemotherapy, IVs and other medications, enter laboratory, EKG and procedure orders/charges, maintain chemotherapy re-certification, and perform in a calm and professional manner during crisis, emergency or unexpected situations.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
- Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Oncology experience
- Chemotherapy Certification

Physical Requirements:
- Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
- Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
- Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.
- Requires some exposure to communicable disease or bodily fluids.
- Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
