- Protects patients, visitors and employees. Eliminates safety hazards, and investigates suspicious activity or people.
- Prevents or deters crime such as vandalism, theft, illegal activities, and property abuse through routine patrols of hospital property; issues warnings or citations when violations are observed.
- Enforces hospital policies e.g. tobacco free/smoking policy.
- Intervenes in patient, visitor and/or staff confrontations as appropriate.
- Demonstrates understanding of emergency procedures, alarm response, lock down, evacuation and internal and external disaster plans.
- Maintains daily activity reports of disturbances, crimes, and activities.
- Testifies in court in response to subpoena as witness and/or reporting officer to crime.
- Works collaboratively with Security Department and Emergency Department staff.
- Remains on assigned post and completes all post specific duties. Ensures that post remains clean, neat and free of all non-work related material.
- Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements.
- Follows hospital and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.

Education:
- High School Diploma or the equivalent. Associates degree in police science, sociology or related field preferred.
Certifications:
- None required
Complexity of Work:
- Must maintain concurrent employment status with Akron Police Department (APD) (or other law enforcement agency) in order to have arrest powers. Skill in analytical, objective observance of situations and quick decision-making. Knowledge of law enforcement practices and procedures. Strong interpersonal skills. Skill in managing situations firmly, courteously, tactfully, and impartially.
