As an OT PT Therapist, you will provide clinical expertise in the evaluation and treatment of patients presenting with various conditions, symptoms, functional abilities and strength. In this role, you will help facilitate a welcoming, healing environment, ensuring each person feels fulling supported, educated and safe throughout care. You will also assist with additional responsibilities, such as orientating caregivers, observing team competency, documenting reviews and developing programs and protocols. This position offers an excellent way to boost motivation, improve treatment outcomes and leave a positive impression on your community every day. 

A caregiver in this position works days from 8:00AM – 4:30PM or 8:30AM – 5:00PM. 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:   

  • Perform an evaluation on each patient assigned to determine appropriate problems to be addressed, including range of motion, muscle strength, gait pattern, sensation, balance, coordination, perception, skin integrity, respiration and determination of functional ability. 
  • Establish treatment goals and formulate treatment plans based on patient evaluation.  
  • Review physician request for treatment. 
  • Recommend revision or discontinuation based on evaluation findings. 
  • Administer, review and revise treatment plan as necessary. 
  • Educate patients and their families about functional status, appropriate preventive and therapeutic exercises, adaptive equipment and modalities for post-discharge care. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:   

  • Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy 
  • Current state licensure as a Physical Therapist (PT) or Occupational Therapist (OP) or Athletic Trainer's (AT) Board 
  • Two years of experience 
  • Demonstrated clinical competence 
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) 
  • Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) Therapist

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk without assistive device and to maintain balance despite sudden load in order to support patient from falling, for example, during gait training.
  • Ability to lift and reach with arms sufficiently to lift patient's arm or leg during exercise program.
  • Sensation to touch and manual dexterity to be able to palpate muscle tension or to monitor patient's pulse.
  • Visual acuity to observe patient's gross movement, gait, etc., in order to analyze bio-mechanical problems.
  • Ability to speak clearly enough to instruct patients and families who may not be able to read.
  • Ability to hear or understand patient's description of symptoms and response to treatment.
  • Mental ability to interpret clinical data for the establishment and implementation of appropriate patient treatment.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems using critical thinking and decision-thinking.
