The Lab Coordinator provides direct patient care by acting as a liaison between the laboratory and caregivers offering support in multiple service environments. This role supports all levels of Laboratory Customer Service Representatives (LCSRs) within the department.

 

A caregiver in this position works days + on-call requirements, from 9:00AM—5:30PM. 

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:   

  • Navigate complex computer and phone systems, while following all RT-PLMI and departmental standard operating procedures for both internal and external customers. 

  • Build and maintain customer relationships by providing exceptional service with a positive, professional empathetic demeanor in all forms of communication. 

  • Maintain proficiency in performing all tasks in current job classification and tasks performed by Laboratory Customer Service Representatives I,II, and III (LCSR I, II and III). 

  • Assist LCSRs by responding to requests for test information, specimen requirements, supplies and fees associated with internal and referred laboratory testing. 

  • Act as a liaison between the LCSRs, supervision, and management to investigate and escalate more complex issues handled by the department. 

  • Identify training needs and ensure that each representative working within the Laboratory Customer Service department receives in-service training and education opportunities related to the department. 

  • Assist with investigation of misdirected PHI and helps compose HIPAA incident reports for corporate compliance. 

  • Update established departmental Job Aids and SOPs. 

  • Work with testing and reference lab directors, managers, supervisors, and coordinators to solve complex issues presented to the department. 

  • Ensure complete documentation is maintained in the CRM (customer relationship management) system. 

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:   

  • Associate’s Degree 

  • Two years of experience in Laboratory Customer Service (additional experience in the laboratory environment or customer services is desirable) 

  • OR High School diploma/GED and college level courses with four years of Lab Customer Services experience 

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills 

  • Can type 35 wpm 

  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office with the ability to learn new software 

  • Maintain professional appearance and demeanor 

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:   

  • Bachelor's of Science Degree

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, talk and type for 8 hours or more per day.

  • Individual must be able to work in confined spaces.

  • Individuals must be flexible to work remote and in an office setting 24/7 including holidays, and/or off hours, and on call based on business needs.

  • Ability to use telephone, computer, and office equipment.

  • Normal/corrected vision and hearing.

  • Ability to differentiate color, hue, saturation and tones.

  • Maintain professional appearance and demeanor.
