Pharmacy Clinical Specialists directly impact our vision of caring for the community we serve. This role allows patients to have additional access to the medical support they need to improve their health and well-being. Your ability to show empathy and understanding while providing exceptional pharmaceutical care can make a difference in their experience and outlook on treatment. 

A caregiver in this position works rotating days/nights from 7:00AM – 7:30PM, 11:00AM – 11:30PM or 3:00PM – 3:30AM.   

A caregiver who excels in this role will:   

  • Perform pharmacotherapeutic monitoring and provision of pharmaceutical care for patients in the area of service responsibility in a routine, continuous manner, taking into account the age and clinical condition of each patient. 
  • Provide general and patient specific drug information to patients, physicians, nurses and, and other health care professionals. 
  • Interact routinely with physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals to provide optimal pharmaceutical care to patients. 
  • Support clinical pharmacist and technician educational development by participating in departmental staff development programs and provides leadership in the education of staff involved in providing pharmaceutical care to patients. 
  • Support clinical pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care to patients by direct interaction, and formal educational programs. 
  • Support and participate in pharmaceutical related research in area of specialty. 
  • Maintain expertise in areas of practice through continual learning, journal review and other educational activities. 
  • Educate clinical pharmacists, technicians, pharmacy students, post graduate trainees, allied health professionals, nurses and physicians in pharmacotherapy within in the specialty area. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:   

  • PharmD or Bachelor's of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy  
  • Current State licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or eligible in current state within 90 days of hire  
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) and completion of a Board of Pharmacy approved course in the administration of immunizations or certification within 90 days of hire if administering immunizations  
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)  Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) if required to respond to adult or pediatric cardiopulmonary arrest events 
  • Completion of a post-graduate year 2 residency (PGY2) or fellowship OR completion of a post-graduate year 1 residency (PGY-1) and two years of experience as a Clinical Specialist or equivalent role, including providing pharmaceutical care and performing pharmacotherapeutic monitoring (50% or more of time spent in the specialty area) OR four years of experience as a Clinical Specialist or equivalent role, including providing pharmaceutical care and performing pharmacotherapeutic monitoring (50% or more of time spent in the specialty area) 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:   

  • BCEMP Certification  
  • PGY-2 EM and three years of experience in EM OR PGY-1 and five years of experience in EM
  • Interest in EM Residency Program Director role
