The Green Health and Wellness Center Emergency Department offers 24-hour medical attention from board-certified, emergency medicine physicians. Backed by the full resources of Cleveland Clinic Akron General and Cleveland Clinic, this team ensures the continuity of care for the community of Green. As an ED Technician, you will prepare rooms, perform administrative tasks, assist with taking vitals and complete various other assigned tasks. Your ability to offer empathy and patience can leave a positive impression on patients and their families every day, regardless of how they feel in the moment. This position is an excellent avenue in which to enhance your healthcare skills in a fast-paced and innovative healthcare environment.
A caregiver in this position works varying shifts.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Prepare patient rooms and beds for incoming Emergency Room patients.
- Greet patients and prepare them for exams.
- Take and record temperature, pulse, pulse oximetry, respirations, weight, height and EKGs.
- Complete catheterizations, enemas, first aid dressings and orthopaedic splints.
- Answer the telephone and place calls to physician offices.
- Scan charts, use fax machines for transferring information, enter patient charges and receive and contribute status reports of patients.
- Accurately use insurance verification systems and enter patient information.
- Assist in emergency situations with EKGs, oxygen setup, CPR, monitoring and summoning ambulances and Paramedics.
- Collect, record, label and transport specimens to the lab.
- Set up and assist the physician with certain procedures, such as pelvic exams, suturing and setting up suture trays.
- Assist in keeping patient rooms in order, report broken equipment, clean equipment and distribute linens and supplies.
- Report changes in patients’ conditions to an RN.
- Document patient care.
- Assist the RN and accept assignments to the ED Observation Unit.
- Complete mandatory education and training to maintain competencies, requirement, certification and licensure.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Experience and/or training in Medical Assisting, STNA and/or Emergency Medical Technician roles
- Experience with personal computer office equipment and clerical duties
- One to two years of experience in a related job in a hospital or healthcare facility
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Broad knowledge of medical terminology
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Previous experience as a Medical Assistant or EMT
