The Level I Emergency Department at Akron General offers the technology, expertise and staffing necessary to treat all injuries, regardless of severity. As a Unit Clerk, you will greet newly admitted and transferred patients, helping facilitate a healing and supportive environment. You will coordinate communication between patients, families and healthcare staff to enhance unit functioning and organization. In this role, you can also explore professional development opportunities to enhance your skills, advance to higher positions or seek further education.
A caregiver in this position works evenings from 3:00PM – 11:30PM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Perform administrative and clerical duties.
- Conduct an in-person greeting and welcome newly admitted and transferred patients to the unit.
- Communicate with and facilitate communication between patients, families, other departments and healthcare team members regarding patient care.
- Assist with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges.
- Provide concierge service to assist patients and families with wayfinding and directing them to available resources.
- Assemble and maintain patient medical records and other documents related to patient care.
- Troubleshoot equipment.
- Respond to patient call lights.
- Keep nursing stations clean and organized.
- Complete mandatory education and training.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- High School Diploma or GED
- One year of experience in a customer service-related role
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Microsoft Office experience

Physical Requirements:
- Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
- Requires frequent data entry, standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
- Requires normal or corrected speech, hearing and vision.
- Requires some exposure to communicable disease or body fluids.
