Fairview Hospital’s PACU has diligent and collaborative caregivers who take pride in their commitment to teamwork and meeting patient needs. As a Patient Care Nursing Assistant (PCNA), you will enhance this powerful dynamic by helping improve the patient experience. In this role, you will interact directly with patients, offering an excellent opportunity to make a lasting difference in their lives.
A caregiver in this position works four rotating 10-hour shifts from 6:00AM – 4:30PM, 9:00AM – 7:30PM or 11:00 – 9:30PM, with one Saturday from 7:00AM – 5:30PM every six weeks.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN, such as taking vital signs and weight, assisting patients with personal, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and removing urinary Foley Catheters.
- Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN.
- Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) before or within new hire period
- Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) considered
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA)

Physical Requirements:
- Full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity and good eye-hand coordination
- Extensive standing and walking
- Medium Work, exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
- Physical Demand requirements in excess of those for Light Work
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follow standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
