Akron General’s Transitional Care Unit (TCU) is a med/surg unit that cares for adult and geriatric patients who need treatment for a variety of diagnoses, such as COPD, asthma, pneumonia, diabetes, GI bleed, sepsis, renal failure, cellulitis, DVT, pancreatitis, ETOH withdrawal, UTI, and altered mental status.
A caregiver in this position works 7:00PM – 7:00AM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Provide nursing care based on patient-centered outcomes and standards of care based on current research and evidence-based practice.

Monitor, record, document and communicate patients’ conditions.

Safely administer patient care and treatments in accordance with the Standards of Safe Nursing Practice and institutional policy.

Safely administer medications in accordance with the Standards of Safe Nursing Practice and institutional policy
-
Involve the patient and family (or designee) in developing a plan of care individualized to patient cultural, religious and educational needs.

Participate in on-going interdisciplinary evaluation of patient/family outcomes and contribute to the improvement of care.

Complete mandatory education and training to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
-
Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.
-
Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
-
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
-
One-year of current acute care RN experience. Will consider military RN experience.
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Bachelor of science in nursing (BSN).

Physical Requirements:
- Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
- Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
- Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
- Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
- Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
- Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
