Certified CS/SPD Technicians are responsible for cleaning and maintaining surgical and hospital tools. In this position, you help ensure patients have the best possible healthcare experience by providing caregivers with safe and sterile equipment. A caregiver in this position works evenings from 1:00 p.m. — 9:30 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. — 11:30 p.m.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Perform case pull functions efficiently and accurately.
- Support departmental initiatives to meet productivity standards and adapt to flexible staffing needs.
- Demonstrate proper handling of equipment, instrumentation, and chemicals while adhering to preventative maintenance schedules and personal protective equipment (PPE) standards during the decontamination process.
- Scan, sort, and inspect instruments for functionality and cleanliness, assembles instruments according to provided lists, wraps, and label them following documented procedures.
- Ensure proper cleaning, decontamination, assembly, and high-level disinfection of reusable instrumentation in accordance with AAMI ST79 standards.
- Monitor and control the distribution of supplies and equipment.
- Perform record-keeping functions within the electronic tracking system, including processing, sterilization, and quality assurance documentation.
- Participate in in-service education.
- Build case carts using electronic preference cards and dispatch them to appropriate locations.
- Perform preceptor duties and assist in educating non-certified technicians.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Two – five years of experience in central service/sterile processing areas OR Military experience,, such as Hospital Corpsmen (HM), Machinery Repairman (MR), Aircraft Maintenance Technician (2A3X3), Biomedical Equipment Specialist (68A), Small Arms Repairer (91F), or similar.
- Successful completion of a recognized training program with certification in central service/sterile processing
- Sterile Processing certification (e.g., CRCST, CSPDT, CFER, or CER)
- Ability to use the computerized instrument tracking system to perform assigned duties, including obtaining instrument count sheets, special handling instructions for instrumentation and documenting sterilization loads
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- One to two years of experience aa a sterile processing technician
- Basic computer skills

Physical Requirements:
- Lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds and ability to push, pull and navigate supply carts weighing >than 75 pounds.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
