Cleveland Clinic’s Surgical Technology Internship program offers a paid role with enhanced experience days for Surgical Technology students in their last semester of an accredited surgical tech program.
This 17 -week program offers the opportunity to learn from Cleveland Clinic surgical educators and fellow interns in a classroom setting, providing the foundational knowledge and hands-on experience to jumpstart your career as a Surgical Technologist. This program consists of internship hours, an experience day, a workshop and time spent working hip-to-hip with an experienced surgical tech preceptor.
Interns will complete 150 hours between Janaury-April, at our Main Campus location, specialties will be discussed during screening call. Interns will work directly with the Nurse Manager to arrange working hours, dependent on schedule. All interns will have scheduled touchpoints throughout the program with the Nurse Manager and Surgical Technology educator.
Start date and orientation will begin on January 5 and will be a mix of onsite and virtual orientation for the first week.
A caregiver who excels in this role, will:

Perform basic surgical patient care activities under the supervision of a Surgical Technologist such as prepping, draping, setting up a sterile field, maintaining aseptic technique, managing specimens, pulling cases, and advocating for patients

Time management skills with room turnover, setting up rooms for the next day, and stocking supplies to meet the needs of the day

Minimum qualifications for the ideal caregiver include:

Current enrollment in an accredited surgical technology program and entering the last semester of the ST program (please include expected graduation date on your resume)

Must hold (or be willing to obtain before start date) a valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent

Physical Requirements:
- Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
- Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
- Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds and ability to push, pull, and navigate supply carts weighing > than 75 pounds periodically.
- Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
- Requires working under stressful conditions of working irregular hours.
- Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
- Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay Range
Minimum hourly: $15.00
Maximum hourly: $150.00
