Nationally certified licensed healthcare provider who provides primary and/or specialty nursing and/or medical care in a variety of healthcare settings. Functions in collaboration with a physician according to a standard care arrangement and specialty certification. Practice emphasizes health promotion, disease prevention and the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic health problems. Certifications may include: acute care, adult, family, gerontology, psych and mental health, and paediatrics.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
? Assess health status by obtaining relevant health and medical history.
? Performs a physical exam based upon the age and patient history as per the Standard Care Arrangement with a collaborating physician.
? Identifies significant health and medical risk factors.
? Documents findings in medical record.
? Orders, interprets and evaluates laboratory test and other diagnostic studies to assess patient’s clinical problems and health care needs.
? Develops a diagnosis by analysing and synthesizing collected data.
? Develops a treatment plan in collaboration with the physician and members of multidisciplinary care team.
? Performs diagnostic or therapeutic interventions consistent with certification, CCAD privileges and DOH guidelines.
? Develops patient education plan.
? Collaborates with nursing, medical and other healthcare team members regularly to ensure safe, quality patient care.
? May perform admission history & physical, document progress notes, and prepare discharge summaries as required.
? Performs routine procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, managing simple conditions
? Produced by infection or trauma, assisting in the management of more complex illness and injury which may include assisting surgeons in conducting operations and taking initiative in performing evaluation and therapeutic procedures in response to life-threatening situations, as privileged by CCAD and DOH guidelines.
? Performs specialized procedures, including bone marrow aspirations, biopsies and harvest, blood draws, designated IV starts, spinal taps, thoracentesis and paracentesis as well as other specific procedures as directed by the physician, following approval by CCAD.
? Provides information and answers routine questions of patients regarding their disease, including preventive health maintenance topics such as diet, weight, smoking and topics related to medical specialty, with basic recommendations. Educates patients regarding their
disease, treatments, related drug and treatment side effects and hazards. Assists with record keeping, completes appropriate patient medical chart, and transcribes lab data and routine correspondence, as directed and reviewed by physician.
? Refers patients to physicians as appropriate for consultation or for specialized health resources and treatment. Ensures continuity of care by serving as a liaison between patient and other members of the multi-disciplinary care team or with other specialty areas as necessary. Performs research follow-up studies as directed by the supervision of a physician.
Assists in data analysis.
? Participates in quality monitoring thru the review of records and treatment plans for patient outcomes on a periodic basis to assure
quality care.
? Facilitates appropriate length of stay, discharge planning and compliance with regulatory standards for inpatient management.
? Demonstrates a high standard of moral and ethical behaviour.
? Demonstrates compassion and professionalism and a commitment to excellent patient care.
? Assists with and facilitates discharge planning.
? Other duties as assigned
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Must have two years previous clinical nurse practitioner experience.
? Depending on practice, surgical fields may require surgical experience.
? Demonstrated exceptional customer service skills with patients, staff and other physicians.
? Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and staff.
? Ability to speak and write in English is required.
? Ability to speak and write in both English and Arabic is preferred
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Fulfil the requirements of Registered Nurse ( Bachelor’s degree in nursing)
AND
Completion of a Clinical Master/Doctoral degree in nursing
OR
National Certification or license as a Nurse Practitioner
