Cleveland Clinic’s Department of Intensive Care and Resuscitation Respiratory Therapists are team-oriented with a practice model that embodies boundary-less collaboration between services. RRTs are given the unique opportunity to work in exclusive world-renowned critical care and stepdown settings, use state-of-the-art equipment, use advanced clinical techniques, participate in research and utilize patient-driven protocols.  

 

RRTs in the Department of Intensive Care and Resuscitation pride themselves on teamwork because they work closely with nurses and physicians to function as a critical care team and provide the best care for their patients.   
  

A caregiver in this position works nights, 7:00PM – 7:30AM, with rotating weekends and holiday requirements.

 
A caregiver who excels in this role will:   

  • Provide assessment, treatment, care and evaluation to patients with respiratory insufficiencies.   

  • Implement and monitor patient care plans.   

  • Assess patients for the appropriate type and frequency of treatment and develop, implement and monitor patient care plans.   

  • Monitor, record and communicate patients’ conditions.  

  • Perform advanced respiratory care modalities, evaluate respiratory practice, administer medications and treatments, and perform blood gas puncture and analysis.   

  • Educate patients and families about the illness and provide information about community support groups and other programs.  

 
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:   

  • Associate's Degree and graduate of a CoARC accredited Respiratory Therapy program.  

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) 

  • Ohio Respiratory Care Professional (RCP) Board Licensure 

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) 

 
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:   

  • Prior experience in critical care.  

  • Bachelor’s degree 

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Neonatal Pediatric Specialist (NPS) certification(s)

Physical Requirements:  

  • Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination. 

  • Normal hearing and vision or corrected to normal range. 

  • May require sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time. 

  • Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. 

  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
