The Endoscopy Technician assists nurses and physicians in all aspects of GI procedures. This includes assistance with the stocking of all rooms with equipment and supplies and maintaining proper procedures for the cleaning and storage of endoscopes.
A caregiver in this position works days, 6:30am—5:00pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Change chemical sterilant and clean scope washer according to policy.

Assess endoscopes daily and report any damage to the director.
-
Prepare and send out scopes for repair after notifying director.
-
Assist in the orientation of new personnel to all in room procedures and to the process for cleaning and disinfection of scopes.

Perform clerical duties if needed in the absence of the scheduler.

Transport specimens according to policy using universal precautions.
-
Make pre-op calls to patients to obtain preliminary information.

Identify opportunities for cost savings and make full use of existing resources.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

High School or GED
-
Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA)
-
One year of experience in a hospital setting
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMT)
