Certified CS/SPD Technicians are responsible for cleaning and maintaining surgical and hospital tools. In this position, you help ensure patients have the best possible healthcare experience by providing caregivers with safe and sterile equipment. A caregiver in this position works weekend days from 7:00AM – 3:30PM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Provide safe, efficient practices for decontamination, instrument assembly, wrapping and sterilization of all reprocessed instruments and distribution equipment.
- Perform case pull functions.
- Determine appropriate case carts to be built for specialty procedures.
- Build case carts ensuring adherence to procedures.
- Dispatch case carts to ensure availability for surgical/clinical procedures.
- Perform record keeping, ordering, stocking and inventory control.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Sterile Processing Distribution (CRST) Certification by IAHCSMM or CBSPD
- Two years of experience in CS/SPD
- Military experience as a Hospital Corpsmen (HM), Machinery Repairman (MR), Aircraft Maintenance Technician (2A3X3), Biomedical Equipment Specialist (68A), Small Arms Repairer (91F) or a similar role considered
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- One year of healthcare, mechanical/manufacturing or similar experience
- Ability to use the computerized instrument tracking
systems

Physical Requirements:
- Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting items that weigh 20-30 pounds.
- Requires the ability to push a fully loaded cart weighing up to 200+ pounds.
- Possible exposure to biological and chemical contamination.
- Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
- Requires corrected vision and hearing to within normal range.
