As a Pharmacy Technician, you play an essential role in keeping patients safe and comfortable throughout their experience. A caregiver in this position works varying shifts from 5:00AM – 1:30PM or 10:00AM – 6:30PM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding.
- Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner.
- Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.
- Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training.
- Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.
- Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Licensed in Florida as a Registered Pharmacy Technician
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) within 18 months of hire
- Ability to perform algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds
- Basic computer skills
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Completion of a formal Pharmacy Technician Training Program
- Six months of hospital experience
