As a Cardiovascular Technician, your responsibilities will include performing both non-invasive and invasive procedures, such as echocardiography, vascular ultrasound, cardiovascular catheterization, stent insertion, balloon angioplasty and implanting pacemakers. In this role, you will ensure patients feel informed, relaxed and safe during each appointment. A caregiver in this position works days from 7:00AM – 5:30PM, with on-call requirements.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Provide guidelines for RCVT/RCIS roles and functions in the Cath Lab.
- Assist nursing and medical caregivers in providing care to patients undergoing cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology procedures.
- Perform scrubbing and monitoring duties during procedures.
- Perform pre-procedure preparation, post-procedure care and patient disposition in collaboration with nursing and medical staff.
- Perform basic EKG interpretation, single and 12-lead ST segments analysis for ischemia/injury patterns and recognition of arrhythmias.
- Recognize and interpret EKG changes related to all electrophysiology procedures, such as mapping, ablating, and implanting of cardiac resynchronization devices.
- Perform arterial and venous pressure monitoring, sampling and basic interpretation.
- Perform three-dimensional mapping systems and the principles of cardiac resynchronization therapy.
- Document procedures completely and accurately including medications and supplies.
- Perform patient observation.
- Assist team members in acute cardiac care, including resuscitation and related therapeutic effects.
- Set up scrub procedures in both the Cath and EP lab.
- Prepare all instruments/equipment for decontamination following universal precautions and take them to the sterilization department.
- Restock procedure room when cases are completed for the day.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Cardiovascular Lab Technology Program Certificate or equivalent education deemed acceptable by RCIS and RCES credentialing body
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certifications
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Certified or Registered Cardiovascular Technologist (RCVT)
- Cath Lab or Interventional Radiology experience
