Imaging Education Specialist Forges Career Path

Greg Jeanblanc is an Imaging Education Specialist at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus. Inspired by a friend to pursue a healthcare career, he began working as an MRI Technologist I at Lakewood Hospital in 2010 and transferred to Main Campus in 2012. He was promoted to MRI Technologist II in 2016.

After advancing his skills and exploring what matters most, Greg was able to take advantage of the resources and support that Cleveland Clinic offers and expand his career path. He accepted a newly created Imaging Education Specialist position in 2017.

In his current role, he’s responsible for doing scans, educating other MRI Technologists, and clearing patients (as part of the MRI Safety Team) that have implants such as pacemakers, defibrillators, spinal cord stimulators, deep brain stimulators (DBS), and more. He also collaborates with doctors on novel procedures and different MRI exams, helping to revise and develop new protocols. In addition, he occasionally works with Interventional Radiologists (IRs) on more complex, special studies such as lymphangiograms. During this procedure, an IR places small needles into the lymph nodes and groin and injects a contrast agent to better view the lymphatic system.

One of his standout memories of interacting with a patient involved helping an older woman receive and complete her MRI. The patient was very nervous about having this procedure and had experienced a tough life, including bouts of homelessness and living with a mental health issue. Greg contacted the MRI Technologist and asked that they be patient with her, give her a little extra time and she should then be able to complete the MRI.

After her procedure was successfully completed, Greg shares, “She was actually in tears because people were so nice to her. I just don’t think she’d had a lot of that in her life — people treating her with respect. We gave her the VIP treatment, just like we treat everybody, and she was really grateful that she was able to get through the MRI.”

Proud to be part of the Cleveland Clinic family, Greg appreciates being treated fairly and respectfully by his superiors. As a caregiver on the team, he’s taken advantage of benefits such as the smoking cessation program as part of the Healthy Choice Program (a voluntary annual discount program from the Employee Health Plan that rewards employees for taking action to manage their health), free membership to Walker Fitness Center, and tuition reimbursement, which he used to get his bachelor’s degree from Cleveland State University in 2016.

Greg appreciates the opportunity to work with new technology and continues to learn new things in his role at Cleveland Clinic.
