The Bariatric and Metabolic Interdisciplinary Program (BMI) at Cleveland Clinic is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and highly motivated Obesity Medicine physician to serve as Medical Lead for the obesity medicine program.
This is an outstanding leadership opportunity for a mid-career obesity medicine physician who is passionate about advancing comprehensive obesity care, leading multidisciplinary teams, mentoring clinicians, and helping shape the future of obesity treatment within one of the nation’s premier academic medical centers.
Position Overview
The Medical Lead will provide clinical and strategic leadership for the obesity medicine team within Cleveland Clinic’s BMI Program. The successful candidate will oversee and support medical obesity care, working closely with bariatric surgeons and a multidisciplinary team. This role includes leadership of a growing obesity medicine team of 18 providers, including 8 physicians and 10 advanced practice providers, across Cleveland Clinic’s enterprise-wide BMI program in Northeast Ohio.
Key Responsibilities
The Medical Lead will:
- Provide evidence-based, patient-centered medical management of obesity.
- Medically manage patients undergoing evaluation for metabolic and bariatric surgery, including preoperative optimization and postoperative longitudinal care.
- Lead, support, and mentor a multidisciplinary obesity medicine team across Cleveland Clinic locations.
- Collaborate closely with members of bariatric surgery, psychology, nutrition, endocrinology, hepatology, cardiology, primary care, and other specialties involved in obesity care across the Enterprise.
- Help advance clinical quality, access, operational efficiency, and care standardization across the BMI.
- Participate in academic, educational, and programmatic initiatives.
- Support faculty, APPs, fellows, and trainees through mentorship and education.
- Engage in clinical research and clinical trials, based on interest and experience.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates should have:
- MD or DO degree
- Training and/or substantial experience in obesity medicine and bariatric care
- ABOM certification
- Mid-career level experience in obesity medicine practice
- Demonstrated interest in multidisciplinary care, program development, and team leadership
- Strong communication, collaboration, and mentorship skills
- Interest in academic medicine, education, research, and clinical trials is highly desirable
About the Bariatric and Metabolic Interdisciplinary Program
With a history spanning more than two decades, the Cleveland Clinic BMI Program is one of the largest and most comprehensive programs of its kind. The BMI provides care for approximately 10,000 patients with obesity annually and performs more than 1,000 bariatric operations each year across several hospitals in Northeast Ohio.
With nearly 100 team members, the program brings together obesity medicine, bariatric surgery, psychology, nutrition, advanced practice providers, research, education, and clinical operations in a highly integrated model of care.
The BMI is also a leading center for bariatric and metabolic research, with multiple practice-changing studies published in high-impact journals including JAMA, New England Journal of Medicine, and Nature Medicine. Interest in research and clinical trials is encouraged, and the successful candidate will have opportunities to participate in ongoing and future studies evaluating obesity treatments, metabolic surgery, incretin-based therapies, and long-term outcomes.

The salary range displayed in this job posting reflects the anticipated salary range for new physicians hired into full-time (100% FTE) positions. This range is generally aligned with or below the 50th percentile of nationally recognized compensation benchmarks by specialty.
