The Senior Director of Pharmacy – Education, Development, and Advocacy provides enterprise-wide leadership across Cleveland Clinic’s pharmacy organization, supporting inpatient, outpatient, and ambulatory services in both Ohio and Florida. This highly visible role oversees the strategy, design, and governance of pharmacy education and training programs, including student experiential learning (IPPE/APPE), residency programs, and pharmacy technician apprenticeship initiatives, ensuring consistency, quality, and performance across the system.
Working closely with executive leadership, pharmacy directors, academic partners, and government relations teams, this leader drives workforce development strategies, standardizes training frameworks, and builds succession planning pipelines to support long-term talent growth. The role also plays a key part in advocacy efforts, partnering on state and federal policy initiatives, monitoring regulatory changes, and representing the organization in external engagements. Through strong cross-functional collaboration, this position aligns education and development programs with enterprise priorities, advancing innovation, performance, and the future of pharmacy practice.
A caregiver in this role will work Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm on-site at CC Main Campus with occasional travel to other CC locations in Ohio as well as Florida. No weekend or holidays required.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Plan, implement, and direct pharmacy operations based on accepted standards of professional practice and state and federal laws.
- Ensure adequate professional and technical staff development to assist in meeting departmental goals.
- Responsible for business development and profit and loss responsibility.
- Develop relationships with key stakeholders to promote and enhance pharmacy services across the enterprise.
- Ensure the development of pharmacy services and provision of exemplary patient care.
- Lead pharmacy teams to obtain enterprise goals.
- Direct quality improvement and cost savings initiatives.
- Establish performance metrics around quality and service including financial targets.
- Through coaching and mentoring, provide ongoing performance feedback to assigned employees.
- Communicate a strong service management philosophy and develop programs and support for the staff to follow this philosophy
- Monitor national and international trends and forecasts to develop priorities aimed towards growth objectives. Keeps abreast of new procedures and developments and recommends and implements new concepts or changes.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Advanced degree — PharmD., Master's of Science degree, or Master's of Business Administration degree — and preferably residency-trained.
- A minimum of 10 years in an equivalent role within a health system environment may offset the advanced degree requirement.
- Current State licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or eligible for reciprocation in current State within 90 days of hire
- A minimum of five (5) years of progressive leadership experience with a distinguished record of job performance.
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience in large, advanced community practice required.
- Active in local, state, and national pharmacy professional organizations.
- Excellent communication skills.
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Residency trained
- Experience in large health system or academic medical center strongly preferred
- Exposure to policy, advocacy, or regulatory engagement is Highly desirable
Physical Requirements:
- Normal physical demands include a high degree of dexterity to produce materials on a PC, normal or corrected vision, extensive sitting for prolonged periods of time, ability to clearly communicate verbally by phone and in person and ability to travel to various locations.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay Range
Minimum Annual Salary: $143,960.00
Maximum Annual Salary: $230,322.50
