Under the supervision of the Neurovascular Laboratory Manager, the Neurovascular Sonographer is responsible for performing comprehensive ultrasound studies of the intracranial and extracranial cerebrovascular system. This includes carotid duplex evaluations, vertebral artery assessments, and a broad range of Transcranial Doppler (TCD) examinations to evaluate cerebral blood flow and vascular integrity.
The sonographer collaborates in the interpretation of diagnostic results, contributes to the education and training of physicians, fellows, residents, and sonography students, and participates in peer interviews and quality initiatives. A strong commitment to patient safety, clinical excellence, and continuous learning is essential in this role.
A caregiver in this position works Monday—Friday| rotating weekends| 6:30am—3:00pm, 7:30am—4:00pm, 8:30am—5:00pm| on-call every 4th weekend.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Perform ultrasound studies (e.g. Carotid duplex examinations, vertebral artery duplex examinations, Transcranial Doppler examinations).

Consult with the referring physician regarding patient's medical history and selection of appropriate procedures and equipment required for proper diagnosis; reviews charts, previous reports and requisition prior to exam.

Prepare patient for examination and explain the procedure before and while performing studies; assist patient on and off exam table and with dressing/undressing as required.

Electronically acquires sonographs and labels correctly with appropriate data (patient name, clinic number, date, scan type, orientation and performing technologist's initials) for the patient's record; maintains records of all examinations performed and completes financial information for each study; obtains previous studies needed for correlation or as requested by the Neurologist – Neuroradiologist.

Participate in reading sessions with radiologist and contributes technical and professional knowledge to the final diagnostic impression.

Assist Physicians with invasive examinations and related procedures requiring sterile technique.

Perform checks on ultrasound equipment to assure proper function of equipment and notify clinical engineering of any equipment malfunctions.

Ensure exam rooms are adequately supplied with linen and related medical supplies.

Schedules all emergency patients for neurovascular examinations.

Monitor all appointments scheduled for ultrasound examinations; performs preliminary research on patient when preparations are not provided; determines priority of patients based on the daily schedules.

Assist with clinical instruction of ultrasound students and residents; assists in in-service education of staff members.

Assist with orienting new employees to the equipment, department procedures and scanning protocols; provides demonstration of ultrasound equipment for staff and visitors.

Assist in new investigational techniques, procedures and equipment; maintains state-of-the-art knowledge in the field through self-motivated education and attendance at appropriate conferences and symposiums.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Completion of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program or Vascular Sonography program

Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) credentialed by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in good standing

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
Pay Range
Minimum hourly: $35.50
Maximum hourly: $54.50
The pay range displayed on this job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires. A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate’s work history, experience, skill set and education. The pay range displayed does not include any applicable pay practices (e.g., shift differentials, overtime, etc.).
