Cleveland Clinic Martin North Hospital is a fully integrated, state-of-the-art medical campus that includes Diagnostic Centers, Outpatient Surgery and a 24-hour Emergency Department. Martin North Hospital is part of the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic, a nonprofit, multispecialty, academic medical center that integrates clinical and hospital care with research and education. 

 

An Advanced Endoscopy Technician provides specialized, high-level technical assistance to physicians during complex gastrointestinal procedures like ERCP, EUS, and therapeutic interventions. They manage specialized equipment, ensure strict disinfection protocols, and assist in patient care. With you on the team, more rooms will be able to be run, allowing more patients to be cared for. 

 

A caregiver in this position works days from 7:00AM – 5:30PM, with on-call requirements. 

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Assist the physician with all endoscopic procedures in addition to the routine colonoscopies, esophagogastroduodenoscopies (EGD), flexible sigmoidoscopies (e.g., ERCP, Cholangioscopy, Electrohydrolithotripsy, mechanical lithotripsy, Stent placement, complex stricture dilation, EUS, EMR, ESD, POEM, POP/G-POEM, STER, Zenker’s diverticulotomy, Z-POEM, RFA for Barrett’s, Cryoablation, Achalasia balloon dilation, EUS guided fiducial placement, Celiac plexus neurolysis and cystgastrostomy). 

  • Ensure proper cleaning and maintenance of all endoscopes. 

  • Complete all documentation logs and records. 

  • Assist the RN with patient care, including but not limited to admission of patient, setting up rooms, transporting patients, patient recovery and final cleaning of rooms. 

  • Troubleshoot/correct technical problems with advanced procedure equipment in pressure situations. 

  • Update/troubleshoot existing methodologies. 

  • Research, develop, implement and evaluate emerging procedures and equipment along with advanced endoscopy physicians. 

  • Assist in the development and performance of departmental CQI projects and statistics. 

  • Develop and maintain competencies for subordinates, conduct in-services and training in conjunction with supervisor for new staff and trainees. 

  • Work with supervisor to establish Par levels for advanced endoscopy equipment. 

  • Assist nurses and physicians in all aspects of GI procedures (e.g., stocking of all rooms with equipment and supplies and maintaining proper procedures for the cleaning and storage of endoscopes). 

  • Change chemical sterilant and cleans scope washer according to policy. 

  • Assess endoscopes on a daily basis and reports any damage to director. 

  • Prepare and send out scopes for repair after notifying director. 

  • Assist in the orientation of new personnel to all in room procedures and to the process for cleaning and disinfection of scopes. 

  • Perform clerical duties if needed in the absence of the scheduler. 

  • Transport specimens according to policy using universal precautions. 

  • Make pre-op calls to patient to obtain preliminary information. 

  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and make full use of existing resources. 

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • High School or GED 

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross 

  • One year of experience with complex endoscopic procedures detailed in the Advanced Endoscopy Technician Clinical Competency Check List 

  • A score of all 5s in the Advanced Endoscopy Technician Clinical Competency Check List, as determined by the Director of Endoscopy and the Endoscopy Nursing Director 

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMT)
