Weston Hospital’s Emergency Department features multi-disciplinary care teams and state-of-the-art technology to diagnose and treat patients effectively, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The department operates in a fast-paced environment, providing rapid, expert care for time-sensitive conditions such as sepsis and stroke. As Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM), you will provide clinical supervision and unit coordination within the ED. With an emphasis on professional development and success, you will encourage caregivers to enhance their skills and patient experience through improvement initiatives and incentives. This position offers a great way to gain extensive leadership experience while continuing to provide the best support and treatment possible.
A caregiver in this role works nights from 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m. or 5:00 p.m. – 3:00 a.m.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Supervise and coordinate unit clinical operations.
-
Provide patient care.
-
Facilitate communication and collaboration among unit caregivers and other departments/units.
-
Review major operational patient care issues with Nurse Managers.
-
Provide ongoing clinical evaluations of caregivers, counsel caregivers on performance issues, administer initial corrective actions and monitor attendance issues.
-
Interview, select and orient new caregivers.
-
Prepare work schedules to ensure adequate coverage on all shifts.
-
Participate in and support quality improvement projects, outcomes, studies and research initiatives.
-
Assume responsibilities of the Nurse Manager in their absence.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
-
Graduate from an accredited school of Professional Nursing
-
Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)
-
Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
-
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
-
Two years of recent clinical nursing experience
-
Strong demonstrated clinical knowledge and skills
-
Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC – adult) or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC – pediatric) upon or within 24 months of hire
-
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) upon or within one year of hire
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Charge Nurse or Leadership/Supervisory experience

Two years of ED experience
Physical Requirements:
-
The position requires a considerate amount of physical work not to exceed 50 pounds.
-
Any workload exceeding 50 pounds will require assistance.
-
The individual will be required to pull up or re-position patients in bed, lift supplies, place equipment or supports, push beds throughout the hospital and perform external cardiac compressions.

The individual must be able to bend over to perform certain duties such as check chest tube drainage, check urine output, etc.
-
The individual must be able to quickly maneuver throughout halls, stairways and patient rooms in response to hospital emergencies.

Interpretation of environmental input requires visual and auditory skills. In the event there is a need to evacuate the building, heavy lifting will be required to carry patients to safety.

Mental Demands: Ability to work at a fast pace and to prioritize multiple assignments/projects and respond to numerous requests; ability to resolve conflicts among staff and to work collaboratively with department directors, physicians and other members of the Healthcare team; ability to ensure operational efficiency; ability to problem-solve and make decisions; ability to exercise self-control and tolerate stress when dealing with multiple requests and/or conflicting demands from multiple customers.

Special Demands: Needs minimal sustained direction in assessing needs, directing staff, and carrying out departmental and professional responsibilities; self-starting and self-motivating; working hours may exceed eight (8) hours per day and is based on what is needed to accomplish work at hand.
