Under the direction and supervision of the Medical Director, the Development Technologist performs laboratory test validations and verifications in accordance with established validation and verification plans. The technologist demonstrates a strong understanding of the scientific theory and principles of flow cytometry, along with solid technical, procedural, and problem-solving skills.
This role works closely with Pathologists to design, develop, and optimize new flow cytometry assays. The technologist contributes to creating and implementing tests that support the detection, classification, and monitoring of a wide range of cancers, directly serving the needs of a rapidly growing cancer center. The position is highly impactful—expanding the diagnostic test menu, enhancing clinical capabilities, and supporting improved patient care and outcomes.
A caregiver in this position works 8:00AM – 4:30PM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Perform laboratory test validations/verifications in accordance with the validation/verification plan.

Assist in the validation and verification of new assays under the direction of the Medical Director.

Perform validation and verification analysis, collect and analyze data and prepare for Medical Director review.

Write technical procedures and submit them to the Medical Director for review and the Laboratory Director for approval.

Train medical technologists in new testing procedures.

Assist with the implementation of newly developed clinical tests.

Participate in the development and presentation of technical papers and posters.

During the validation/verification process, follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting guidelines.

Does not perform patient testing nor fulfil a CLIA laboratory personnel role.

May perform testing for research purposes or clinical trials that are not utilized for patient treatment or diagnosis.

Maintain regulatory knowledge and awareness as it pertains to specific job duties.

Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies.
-
Document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.

Take action regarding any quality control or quality assurance issues as it pertains to specific job duties.

Maintain instruments and equipment in accordance with manufacturer's specifications.

Document practices and maintain clear and legible records.

Demonstrate an understanding of the theory and scientific principles of laboratory testing and the technical, procedural and problem-solving aspects.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
-
Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from a four-year college or university OR meets the CLIA qualifications for high complexity testing personnel grandfathering clauses

Diploma and/or transcripts must be provided and education will be verified
-
Two years of experience in a clinical/research laboratory or related technical environment
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

MT (ASCP) or MLS (ASCP) eligible

2+ years of Flow Cytometry
Physical Requirements:

Physical demands include: Visual acuity to study specimens under a microscope.

The ability to distinguish colors.

Fine motor skills and manual dexterity to handle specimens and lab equipment required to process specimens and repair equipment.

May be required to stand for long periods of time.

Light lifting may be required.

May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, biohazards, radioactive materials, etc.

Pay Range
Minimum hourly: $33.46
Maximum hourly: $51.03
The pay range displayed on this job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires. A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate’s work history, experience, skill set and education. The pay range displayed does not include any applicable pay practices (e.g., shift differentials, overtime, etc.).
