As a Lead MRI Technologist, you will perform MRI examinations and procedures for patients of all ages while maintaining the highest standards of image quality and patient safety. This role involves running scan rooms alongside other technologists, serving as the go-to resource for questions regarding implants, patient care and vendor coordination, assisting with scheduling, and acting as the point person for overnight staff. You will work independently, exercise sound judgment with minimal supervision and balance responsibilities with approximately 80% of your time spent scanning patients and 20% on lead and administrative duties.

A caregiver in this position works evenings + on-call shifts from 2:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. with weekend and rotating holiday requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Under the direction of the Clinical Manager, supervise and coordinate work activities of assigned personnel.

  • Schedule work assignments and prepare master schedule.

  • May perform payroll time sheets for employees.

  • Train, counsel, discipline and evaluate performance of employees.

  • Assist with interviewing applicants and recommend selection.

  • Maintain procedure manual and communicate changes to staff.

  • Assist with all policies and procedures required by local, state, or federal law.

  • Assist with compliance or credentialing bodies (ACR, MQSA, Medicare, Medicaid, FDA, etc.).

  • Assist with instrument calibration and record to ensure compliance with quality assurance requirements.

  • Ensure and maintain quality control in regard to patient care and equipment usage.

  • Ensure quality assurance tests are performed daily/weekly and all policies and procedures are adhered to.

  • Provide technical direction with complex cases and problem solving.

  • Schedule routine preventative maintenance on equipment to meet safety and regulatory standards.

  • Instruct other area personnel in Radiation Protection and ensure their safety.

  • Prepare and check patients prior to MRI procedure.

  • Acquire patient questionnaire, chart, data/requisition and review all to determine contraindication of having MRI examination.

  • Verify and validate patient screening safety form.

  • Perform MRI procedures required per protocol and perform daily QA.

  • Perform venipunctures as necessary and maintain competencies.

  • Educate patients regarding MRI procedures, equipment and exams to ensure understanding and cooperation.

  • Ensure patients' comfort and safety during and after the exam.

  • May assist with scheduling of patients as needed.

  • Administer proper contrast related to patients having MRI exams.

  • Immediately report any malfunctions to help desk and PACS Administrator.

  • Observe potential equipment dysfunctions and report problems to appropriate individuals calling for service as required.

  • Maintain available equipment of the highest level for patient accessibility.

  • Provide instruction/mentoring to new hires and Radiology Students.

  • Continually strive to learn new technical information and skills through attendance of periodic in-service programs and participation in professional affiliation sessions.

  • May be required to rotate through all imaging modalities, sites and/or locations.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:   

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Must have one of the following:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology

  • OR graduate of an accredited school in Sonography or Radiation Therapy

  • OR possess a Bachelor's Degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology
    OR certification from CAHEA approved Nuclear Medicine Technology training program

  • Two years of recent modality experience

  • American Registry of Radiology Technologists (ARRT) certification

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross

  • American Registry of Radiology Technologists (ARRT) Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR) certification

  • Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and related pathologic processes

  • Knowledgeable in acquiring, archiving, transmitting and printing images via PACS 

  • Knowledgeable in after-hours transmission of images and appropriate paperwork

  • Knowledgeable in billing via RIS

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:   

  • Three years of experience plus hospital experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift or assist with lifting patients of varying weight and manipulate equipment daily.

  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.

    • Health Plan Options – You have the choice between two comprehensive Cleveland Clinic Employee Health Plan options: EHP and EHP Plus. Both plans are administered by Aetna and feature minimal copays for in-network care. Although the benefit designs of EHP and EHP Plus are identical, they differ in their provider network size, with EHP offering a narrow network and EHP Plus providing access to the wide Aetna Open Access Select network.
